Santiago is home to hundreds of thousands of street dogs – and a couple of Chilean college students have come up with a delightful way to raise awareness of their plight.

Violeta Caro Pinda and Felipe Carrasco Guzman got strangers to give a little love to local strays by tying balloons to the dogs carrying messages like "hug me" and "don't abandon me".

The experiment worked and their video of the loved-up strays, called I Am Here, has been shared on Facebook nearly 30,000 times.
